Trump taps Daniel Walsh to replace top White House aide

President Trump has tapped Daniel Walsh to replace Joe Hagin, the former White House adviser who helped orchestrate Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un last month.

Walsh’s official title will be assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff of operations, according to a memo released by the White House on Friday.

Walsh had worked as deputy assistant to Trump and director of the White House Military Office since September.

Hagin announced his departure from the post last month, leaving behind decades of experience at the White House to return to the private sector. Before Trump, the 62-year-old deputy chief of staff had served in the same post under former Presidents George W. and George H.W. Bush, as well as former President Ronald Reagan. 

The White House said Hagin had committed to serving in his role for one year, though he chose to stay six months longer. 

Hagin, initially brought on for his depth of experience, managed the complex logistical legwork behind Trump’s travels abroad, including negotiating with foreign governments. Hagin also helped acquire a new jet to serve as Air Force One.
