Poll: Half of voters say Russia has ‘compromising information’ on Trump

About half of Americans said in a new poll that they believe that the Kremlin has “comprising information” about President Trump.

Fifty-one percent of respondents in the Quinnipiac University survey released on Tuesday said they believe the Russian government has something on Trump, while 35 percent said they do not.

A vast majority of Republicans — 70 percent — doesn’t believe the Russian government has anything on Trump, while most other demographics agreed with the statement. White voters with no college degree and white men were split on their stance.

Fifty-two percent of voters also said that Trump’s recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin was a failure, while 73 percent said it was a win for Russia.

A majority of voters — 54 percent — also said that Trump was not acting in the best interest of the U.S.

The poll was administered as Trump faced blowback for performance at a Helsinki summit with Putin, including last week’s widely criticized press conference alongside the Russian leader.

Trump appeared to side with Putin’s denials of Russian election interference during the press conference, but moved to walk back his comments the next day.

The president is also getting pushback from lawmakers, including Republicans, after he invited Putin to D.C. for a second meeting this fall.

Quinnipiac University interviewed 1,177 voters from July 18-23. The poll has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
