Trump heads to Virginia golf club

President Trump traveled to his golf club in Northern Virginia on Saturday morning as various lawmakers and public figures attended a funeral service in Washington honoring the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Trump was not invited to the service for McCain, a vocal critic with whom he frequently clashed over the years and while in office. Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner attended the funeral on Saturday.

The president arrived at his Trump National Golf Club in Loudoun County, Va., shortly after 11 a.m., according to a White House pool report. Trump regularly travels to the club to golf on weekends that he is in Washington.{mosads}

Hundreds of lawmakers, public officials and dignitaries attended McCain’s funeral service Saturday morning at the Washington National Cathedral, where former Presidents George W. Bush and Obama delivered eulogies.

Earlier in the morning, McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain took several swipes at Trump during her speech at the service, condemning “cheap rhetoric” and declaring that “the America of John McCain has no need to be made great again, because America was always great.”

Also attending McCain’s funeral Saturday on behalf of the Trump administration was Defense Secretary James Mattis, White House chief of staff John Kelly and national security adviser John Bolton, as well as Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.

McCain died last Saturday at the age of 81 after being diagnosed with brain cancer.
