Trump: ‘What was Nike thinking’ with Kaepernick ad

President Trump is hammering a Nike ad campaign that features Colin Kaepernick, a former NFL quarterback who was the first to take a knee during the national anthem before games.

“I don’t like what Nike did. I don’t think it’s appropriate what they did. I honor the flag. I honor our national anthem and most of the people in this country feel the same way. They feel the same way,” Trump said in an interview with “Fox & Friends” that aired Friday morning.

“What was Nike thinking?” Trump added on Twitter.

In a new Nike ad, Kaepernick says, “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.”

That first ad sparked a backlash from conservatives, many of whom destroyed their Nike products and vowed to boycott the company.

“Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts,” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

Trump has criticized Kaepernick since the campaign trail, and continues to rail against NFL players who protest during the national anthem. Kaepernick said his stance was against social injustice and racial inequality in the U.S.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, your, he’s fired,” Trump said.

Kaepernick is unsigned by any NFL team, and is currently suing the league for allegedly blackballing him over his protests.
