Pence: ‘Veterans have no better friend than President Trump’

Vice President Pence in an opinion piece on Sunday said that that veterans “have no better friend” than President Trump.

“It is written that ‘if you owe debts, pay debts; if honor, then honor; if respect, then respect,’ ” Pence wrote in a piece for Fox News. “The debt our nation owes those who have worn the uniform is a debt we will never be able to fully repay.”

“But just as those courageous men and women have fought for us, our entire administration has fought for them,” he wrote. “Veterans have no better friend than President Trump.”

He added that the Trump administration has always “taken decisive action” to protect veterans’ benefits and to substantially reform veterans’ health care.

{mosads}”President Trump has taken action to hold the VA [Department of Veterans Affairs] accountable, signing the Veterans Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act,” Pence wrote. “Since our election, more than 4,200 VA employees have been fired, suspended or demoted for negligent behavior.”

“Our actions are having a real impact on the men and women who have sacrificed for our country: health-care wait times are down, VA accountability is up, and under our administration unemployment among veterans has reached its lowest level in nearly two decades.”

He concluded the piece by encouraging “every American to thank a veteran” on the 100th Veterans Day.

“To all of those who’ve worn the uniform, on behalf of a grateful nation, Happy Veterans Day,” he wrote.

Trump honored the French and American soldiers of World War I Sunday on the 100th anniversary of the end of the conflict.

He was criticized, however, for not attending a Saturday ceremony at a U.S. military cemetery in France due to poor weather.
