Giuliani: Mueller might have more questions for Trump
President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani said Wednesday that special counsel Robert Mueller may have additional questions for Trump.
Giuliani told CNN that Trump’s legal team, which said Tuesday that it had submitted written answers to Mueller, is willing to answer follow-up questions from the special counsel in its investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.
{mosads}”We’ll consider them and answer them if necessary, relevant and legal,” Giuliani said. “If it was something that would be helpful, relevant — not a law school exam.”
Giuliani also said Mueller might seek more answers from Trump on questions related to obstruction of justice.
Giuliani, who said the president’s lawyers will fight back against questions they think violate executive privilege, added that obstruction questions are “not on the table, but could be back on the table.”
The former mayor of New York City also told CNN, however, that Trump’s legal team is likely to argue that Mueller’s team already has what it needs on obstruction from interviews with other witnesses and that asking further questions could be a “real intrusion into privilege.”
Trump’s other personal lawyer, Jay Sekulow, said Tuesday the president’s lawyers submitted answers to questions “regarding the Russia-related topics of the inquiry.”
Trump has long decried the Russia investigation as unnecessary, claiming that it is a “witch hunt” and maintaining that there was no collusion between his campaign and Russia.
Giuliani also told CNN that he doesn’t believe any of Trump’s answers will surprise the special counsel.
“None of the answers have changed. Maybe we corrected a date or two. Nothing important changed,” he said.
