Trump spoke to Nigel Farage about Brexit deal: report

President Trump allegedly discussed British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal with British politician Nigel Farage, BuzzFeed News reported Wednesday.

According to BuzzFeed, a diplomatic source told the outlet that Farage gave a poor review of May’s Brexit deal with the European Union. A senior White House official told BuzzFeed that Trump recently spoke to Farage.

The official added that Trump has his own views on the United Kingdom’s exit from the EU, which he has expressed publicly.

On Monday, Trump cautioned that the Brexit deal May brokered might make it harder for the U.K. to strike a trade deal with the U.S.

{mosads}“Right now as the deal stands she may not, they may not, be able to trade with the U.S., and I don’t think they want that at all. That would be a very big negative for the deal,” Trump told reporters.

May’s office brushed off the comments, citing “positive and productive” discussions with the White House.

According to BuzzFeed, Trump reportedly talks to Farage regularly. The outlet reported that the two spoke recently, though it was not specified when the call reportedly took place.

Farage led the pro-Brexit United Kingdom Independence Party and became a strong supporter of Trump’s.

Farage on Monday called Brexit “the worst deal in history,” lambasting May’s agreement with the European Union in an interview on Fox News.

May’s agreement has been criticized roundly, particularly by British conservatives and Brexit supporters.

The White House and Farage’s press office did not immediately respond to The Hill’s requests for confirmation of the report.
