Trump asks RNC chair to stay for 2020 election

President Trump confirmed Thursday he’s asked Ronna McDaniel to stay on for a second two-year term as chairwoman of the Republican National Committee so that she can assist in his 2020 reelection campaign.

“As RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel oversaw history defying gains in the Senate and unprecedented fundraising strength. I have asked her to serve another term for my 2020 re-elect, because there is no one better for the job!” he tweeted.

{mosads}It was first reported in October that McDaniel would stay on for second term.

McDaniel, who is also Sen.-elect Mitt Romney’s (R-Utah) niece, was elected RNC chair in 2017 to replace Reince Priebus as he became White House chief of staff.

Trump’s endorsement makes it unlikely that McDaniel will face a challenger as the president solidifies his grip on the Republican Party.

While Republicans lost control of the House of Representatives after Democrats flipped a net of approximately 40 seats, they were able to expand their majority to 53-47 in the Senate, defeating several senators in states Trump carried in 2016.

McDaniel has emerged as an effective fundraiser for the party and a staunch defender of the president.
