Trump meeting with Schumer and Pelosi postponed due to Bush funeral
A White House meeting between President Trump and Democratic congressional leaders has been postponed, according to a senior Democratic aide.
The sit-down, which was scheduled for Tuesday with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), was put on hold because of the funeral arrangements for President George H.W. Bush, who passed away Friday night.
{mosads}The 41st president will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol this week, with a Capitol ceremony scheduled for Monday and funeral services at the National Cathedral set for Wednesday.
Trump, who has been demanding money for his border wall, was expected to discuss government funding with Pelosi and Schumer ahead of a Dec. 7 spending deadline.
Congressional leaders are in talks to pass a short-term spending bill, though they have yet to settle on a length. Democrats prefer just a one-week stopgap, while Republicans want a two-week patch that would push the funding deadline to right before Christmas.
Trump signaled to reporters over the weekend that he would be willing to sign a continuing resolution (CR) to give Congress time to deal with Bush’s passing.
