Cohen’s former lawyer: Anyone linked to Trump campaign ‘has a lot to worry about’

Michael Cohen’s former lawyer, Lanny Davis, said Wednesday that anyone with ties to President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign has reason to worry after the president’s former fixer was sentenced to three years in prison.

“Anybody associated with the Trump campaign has a lot to worry about,” Davis said on MSNBC.

{mosads}Davis made the comments shortly after his former client was sentenced to 36 months in prison for a series of crimes he committed while working as Trump’s personal attorney.

The sentence comes after Cohen pleaded guilty to federal charges in August, including campaign finance violations stemming from payments to two women alleging to have had affairs with Trump more than a decade ago.

Asked if Trump’s children should be worried about a possible indictment, Davis declined to comment. But he added that individuals who were in Trump’s orbit during the campaign have reason to worry because of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

“Bob Mueller, who’s akin to a submarine, silently fueled by facts and only facts, with no leaks, and just watch and wait,” he said. “And that’s what Mr. Cohen will do and then Michael will tell the truth once Mueller is finished with his work.”

Davis also said in an emailed statement to The Hill that Cohen plans to tell everything he knows about the president once Mueller’s Russia probe concludes.

“At the appropriate time … I look forward to assisting Michael to state publicly all he knows about Mr. Trump – and that includes any appropriate Congressional committee interested in the search for truth and the difference between facts and lies,” he said.

Federal prosecutors in New York last week recommended that Cohen receive a “substantial” prison sentence despite his cooperation in the Mueller probe.

Cohen said in court Wednesday that he takes responsibility “for each act that I pled guilty to: The personal ones to me and those involving the president of the United States of America.”
