Trump to meet with House GOP as frustration builds

President Trump will meet with House Republicans on Thursday as his frustration builds over their refusal to include border-wall funding in a stopgap spending bill.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement the meeting will take place at noon.

{mosads}“At this moment, the president does not want to go further without border security, which includes steel slats or a wall,” she said. “The president is continuing to weigh his options.”

Trump has refused to state publicly whether he will accept a funding bill without wall money, renewing the prospect of a partial government shutdown.

Funding is set to lapse on Friday for seven government agencies, just days before the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Trump made it clear on Thursday that he is upset with Congress for declining to include $5 billion in wall funding in the spending bill.

“When I begrudgingly signed the Omnibus Bill, I was promised the Wall and Border Security by leadership. Would be done by end of year (NOW). It didn’t happen! We foolishly fight for Border Security for other countries – but not for our beloved U.S.A. Not good!” he tweeted.

The president has sent conflicting signals all week about whether he would sign a stopgap spending bill to avert a shutdown.

The White House previously indicated it would accept a funding bill that does not include $5 billion for the wall because it could find the money in other government agencies’ budgets.
