Huckabee defends Trump’s Santa comment: ‘It wasn’t like he was boiling the little girl’s bunny rabbit’

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Wednesday defended President Trump for asking a child if they believed in Santa, saying the controversy over the remarks was overblown.

Huckabee appeared on “Fox & Friends” the morning after Christmas and said the president “can’t catch a break.”

“What is wrong with people?” Huckabee asked about the backlash. “It wasn’t like he was boiling the little girl’s bunny rabbit in a pot on the stove or something.”

{mosads}Monday on Christmas Eve, the president and first lady Melania Trump fielded questions to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) call center from children about Santa’s location. From the White House, Trump answered a call from a child named Collman.

“Are you still a believer in Santa?” Trump asked. “Because at 7 it’s marginal, right?”

Huckabee said Trump asked a “simple question,” arguing that the press will never be happy covering the president.

“It doesn’t matter what he does,” Huckabee said. “If he didn’t make the call, if he didn’t talk to the little girl, they would say he was curled up in a fetal position in the White House and was unwilling to come out and talk to anybody.”

“I mean, the man can’t catch a break,” he added.

Huckabee’s daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, is Trump’s White House press secretary.
