A civilian aircraft entered restricted airspace near President Biden’s Delaware home Saturday, according to a spokesperson for the Secret Service.
“Shortly after 2 p.m Saturday, a civilian aircraft violated restricted airspace north of Wilmington, Delaware,” Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement posted to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “As a precaution, assets were scrambled to intercept and the civilian aircraft safely landed at a nearby airport.”
“There were no impacts to the protectee’s movements as a result of this incident and agents from the United States Secret Service are investigating in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration,” the statement continued.
A fighter aircraft and helicopter were sent to escort the aircraft out of the restricted airspace after its aircraft’s presence was first detected, according to a release shared by Guglielmi.
The president has a residence in Wilmington, Del., the state where he was a senator before becoming vice president and eventually attaining the presidency. The Wilmington residence gained some notoriety after classified documents from his time as vice president were discovered there in January.
