Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), ripped President Trump Tuesday for taking a shot at her deceased father, saying “the greatness of my father’s life and legacy haunts you.”
Trump reportedly made fun of John McCain on Tuesday during a private lunch with television anchors hours before his State of the Union address, saying McCain’s book “bombed.”
{mosads}“The president’s obsession with my father 6 months after his death is pathetic and telling – even at a time when he should be focusing on his message to the American public and the state of our union,” Meghan McCain wrote in a Twitter post.
She added that “the greatness of my father’s life and legacy haunts you.”
John McCain, a frequent and vocal critic of Trump, died in August just over a year after being diagnosed with brain cancer.
McCain and Trump’s contentious relationship peaked when McCain cast the deciding vote against repealing the Affordable Care Act, drawing Trump’s outrage.
McCain’s book, “The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations,” took shots at Trump for caring about an “appearance of toughness” instead of American values.
Meghan McCain, a host on ABC’s “The View,” has taken up her father’s mantle in calling out Trump.
