Trump urges OPEC to ‘take it easy’

President Trump on Monday urged the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to “relax and take it easy,” warning the international organization against raising oil prices.

“World cannot take a price hike – fragile!” Trump tweeted.

Oil prices on Monday inched toward a high point for 2019, Reuters reported.

{mosads}The president, who regularly points to the strength of the economy in touting his administration, has often tweeted about gas prices and took credit last November for falling oil prices.

Trump has repeatedly called on OPEC via Twitter to keep oil prices low. The group agreed in December to cut production by 1.2 million barrels per day in an effort to boost prices and balance the market.

That move came shortly after the president had urged the organization via Twitter to keep “oil flows as is.”

Trump last September invoked U.S. military support of Middle East nations in warning that the “OPEC monopoly must get prices down now!”

Last July, he accused the oil exporters of doing “little to help” rising gas prices.

In June, he again blamed the organization for “artificially high” gas prices, tweeting that “OPEC is at it again.”
