George Conway blasts Trump for ‘brazen, pathological mendacity’ in Twitter rant

George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, on Wednesday ripped President Trump’s “brazen, pathological mendacity” in a series of tweets, questioning whether a “serious inquiry” needs to be made into the president’s mental state.

“Have we ever seen this degree of brazen, pathological mendacity in American public life? One day he makes a harmless slip of the tongue, something any mentally balanced person would laugh off,” George Conway tweeted, referencing Trump calling Apple CEO Tim Cook “Tim Apple” last week.

Trump on Monday claimed that he intentionally said “Tim Apple” in order to “save time & words.”{mosads}

Conway, a frequent critic of Trump, went on to rip the president over the claim, saying Trump was lying and asking why he would “compelled to tell such an absurd lie?”

“But instead he lies about it,” Conway continued. “He denies what the world can see on videotape. Even his donors and supporters wonder, what is wrong with him? Why would be feel compelled to tell such an absurd lie?

“But one lie on any subject is never enough for Donald Trump. So he next tells a different lie. Yes, I omitted a word, but to save time. A ridiculous assertion, of course—he really said ‘Tim Apple’ instead of ‘Tim Cook of Apple’ to save **a third of a second**?”

He went on to blast the president for his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this month.

“This man who recently gave a incoherent, rambling two-hour-plus speech, this man not known for economy of words?” Conway said, referring to Trump’s freewheeling speech. “Another absurd, crazy lie.”

Conway also pointed to Trump’s false claim that a district judge exonerated the Trump campaign of collusion with Russia during former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s sentencing.

“The judge says, in open court, that Manafort’s lawyers’ ‘no collusion’ ‘mantra’ was patently ridiculous because it was irrelevant to the charges at hand—not that there was no proof of collusion, just that whether there was or wasn’t was irrelevant to the proceedings at hand,” Conway said. “And yet he lies again—a blatant lie—about what the judge said in open court.”

Trump insisted after Manafort’s latest sentencing on Wednesday that Judge Amy Berman Jackson declared there was no collusion between Trump’s campaign and Moscow.

Jackson said that the argument of no collusion “was simply a non-sequitur.”

Conway concluded his series of tweets by noting that these are just two examples in which the president has lied, calling for a “serious inquiry” into Trump’s “condition of mind.”

“It’s beyond politics. It’s nuts. It’s a disorder,” Conway said. “Whether or not impeachment is in order, a serious inquiry needs to be made about this man’s condition of mind.”

Conway has repeatedly taken aim at the president during his two years in office. He said in January that “nothing” Trump says can be taken at face value.

He said earlier this month that the president should be impeached if a report that he ordered a top White House official to pressure the Department of Justice to block the AT&T-Time Warner merger is proven true.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
