Trump Cabinet down to three women amid administration turnover

President Trump’s Cabinet is down to three women in sitting positions.

CNN reported Monday that women represent 13 percent of Trump’s Cabinet-level officials, lower than the administrations of former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

Trump announced on Sunday that Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is leaving his administration, just a few weeks after Small Business Administrator Linda McMahon announced she would exit. United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley also resigned in October.

{mosads}That leaves three women in Cabinet positions: Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, CIA Director Gina Haspel and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

DeVos and Chao have served in their current capacities since the start of Trump’s term.

The Trump administration regularly undergoes staff turnover. Nielsen is the 15th member of Trump’s Cabinet to step down from a job, according to USA Today. Multiple positions are currently being filled by acting or interim directors, now including the Department of Homeland Security. 

Trump has women in other prominent roles in his administration. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kellyanne Conway have been high-profile members of Trump’s staff since before he entered the White House. Sanders currently serves as White House press secretary, and Conway is counselor to the president.

Additionally, the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump plays a leading role in the Trump administration. Her duties include leading the White House global women’s empowerment initiative.
