Ivanka Trump’s trip to Colorado canceled after fatal shooting

Ivanka Trump’s planned trip to Colorado this week was canceled following a shooting at a Denver-area school on Tuesday in which one person was killed and several others were injured.

A White House spokesman confirmed to The Denver Post following the attack that her trip would be postponed. 

Trump, a White House adviser, was reportedly set to deliver a speech on workforce development Wednesday at a Lockheed Martin facility in the state.

{mosads}The Trump administration in a statement on Tuesday afternoon thanked local law enforcement for their heroism. 

“Our prayers are with the victims, family members, and all those affected by today’s shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch in Littleton, Colorado,” said White House spokesman Judd Deere on Tuesday.

“Tragically, this community and those surrounding it know all too well these hateful and horrible acts of violence. The White House has been in communication with state and local officials, and the President has been briefed and continues to monitor the ongoing situation. We offer our full support to local law enforcement and first responders and thank them for their heroism,” Deere added.

An 18-year-old man was killed and eight other students were injured in the shooting.

Two suspects, an adult man and a juvenile, were arrested at the scene. The two are thought to be students of the school.

“We are making all of our public safety resources available to assist the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department in their effort to secure the site and evacuate the students,” Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) tweeted Tuesday as the attack unfolded.

“The heart of all Colorado is with the victims & their families.”
