White House misspells Boston Red Sox as ‘Red Socks’ ahead of visit

The White House misspelled the Boston Red Sox as the “Boston Red Socks” in an announcement detailing the championship team’s visit to the nation’s capital Thursday.

“President Trump Welcomes the 2018 World Series Champions The Boston Red Socks to the White House,” the announcement read on the White House’s website on Thursday morning.

According to CBS Boston, the announcement was corrected around 9 a.m., but the gaffe had already made its way around social media.

The Red Sox team is scheduled to meet with President Trump on Thursday to celebrate its 2018 World Series win.

So far, a few members of the team have already confirmed they won’t be in attendance for the planned visit.

Earlier this month, manager Alex Cora said he would not be attending the visit in opposition to the Trump administration’s handling of hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. Cora was born in the Puerto Rican city of Caguas.

Players Mookie Betts, David Price, Rafael Devers, Sandy Leon and Christian Vazquez are among others who have confirmed they will skip the celebration.
