Trump rips Democrats’ demands, impeachment talk: ‘Witch Hunt continues!’

President Trump slammed Democrats on Wednesday for investigations into his administration and talk of impeachment, accusing the party of ignoring its legislative duties to harass him.

In several messages posted early Wednesday morning, the president wrote that congressional Democrats led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) were fishing after the years-long special counsel investigation ended without further charges for members of Trump’s inner circle.

{mosads}”Everything the Democrats are asking me for is based on an illegally started investigation that failed for them, especially when the Mueller Report came back with a NO COLLUSION finding,” he wrote. “Now they say Impeach President Trump, even though he did nothin wrong, while they ‘fish!’ “

“After two years of an expensive and comprehensive Witch Hunt, the Democrats don’t like the result and they want a DO OVER. In other words, the Witch Hunt continues!” Trump added.

His remarks come as Democrats have pressed for special counsel Robert Mueller to testify before Congress on whether he believes Trump obstructed justice, a crime for which Mueller did not make a determination.

Trump in subsequent tweets on Wednesday accused the party of “presidential harassment” and predicted that he would have approval ratings close to 65 percent were it not for the Mueller investigation.

The president’s latest ire toward congressional Democrats comes as more members of the party come forward in support of opening impeachment hearings against Trump, a move that days ago earned its first GOP supporter in Rep. Justin Amash (Mich.).

Democrats have threatened impeachment hearings for months, and the calls have only grown stronger amid resistance from the White House over turning over information Democrats have requested as part of their investigations, including information related to the Russia investigation as well as the president’s tax returns.

The pressure to begin impeachment hearings has yet to win support from House Democratic leadership, though Democrats have become more vocal in demanding action from Pelosi and others.
