Trump rips ‘washed up psycho’ Bette Midler for sharing fake quote

President Trump is blasting Bette Midler, dubbing the famed actress a “washed up psycho” for sharing a fake quote about him.

The “Beaches” star — one of Hollywood’s fiercest Trump critics — had posted the quote earlier this week to her more than 1.6 million Twitter followers. The quote, which inaccurately claimed to be from Trump, called Republicans “the dumbest group of voters in the country.”

Trump took to his Twitter account on Tuesday to slam the 73-year-old Academy Award-nominated performer.

“Washed up psycho @BetteMidler was forced to apologize for a statement she attributed to me that turned out to be totally fabricated by her in order to make ‘your great president’ look really bad. She got caught, just like the Fake News Media gets caught. A sick scammer!” Trump wrote.

Midler had issued an apology on Monday following the fake quote snafu, writing, “Don’t know how I missed it, but it sounds SO much like [Trump] that I believed it was true!” The quote had been debunked by Snopes in 2015.

She later took to Twitter again to sound off on the controversy.
It’s not the first time Trump has ripped Midler on social media. In 2012, the then-New York real estate developer wrote, “While @BetteMidler is an extremely unattractive woman, I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct.” He also wrote that Midler “sucked” during a 2014 Oscars performance.
