President Trump will meet with the emir of Qatar at the White House next month to discuss regional issues as the administration faces potential delays in the rollout of its Middle East peace plan.
The White House announced Friday that Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani will visit the White House on July 9. The two leaders will discuss regional developments, bilateral security cooperation and counterterrorism issues, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

This visit comes as the Trump administration continues building support for its long-awaited Middle East peace plan. White House senior adviser Jared Kushner visited Qatar and other Arab nations in the region earlier this year to speak with diplomats about the effort.
An economic summit aimed at developing benefits for the Palestinian people is set to take place later this month in Bahrain. Qatar is expected to participate.
But the unveiling of the peace plan is likely to be delayed as the Israeli government faces new elections after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to form a governing coalition.
