President Trump in an early morning tweet on Monday said Mexico is doing more to stop illegal immigration than the Democrats.
“Now with our new deal, Mexico is doing more for the USA on Illegal Immigration than the Democrats,” he said. “In fact, the Democrats are doing NOTHING, they want Open Borders, which means Illigal Immigration, Drugs and Crime.”
Trump added in subsequent tweets that an “important part” of the deal “will be revealed in the not too distant future” and warned that tariffs would be reinstated if it is voted down by Mexico’s legislature.
{mosads}Trump on Sunday defended the agreement he announced last week, which averted promised tariffs on Mexican imports in exchange for increased border security.
“There is now going to be great cooperation between Mexico & the USA, something that didn’t exist for decades,” he said in a series of tweets.
“However, if for some unknown reason there is not, we can always go back to our previous, very profitable, position of Tariffs — But I don’t believe that will be necessary,” he added.
Trump in multiple tweets on Sunday also criticized The New York Times for reporting that elements of the deal with Mexico had been agreed to months ago.
He kept up those attacks on Monday, calling the report a “badly reported ‘hit job.'”
Trump on Sunday said a “National Holiday would be immediately declared” if former President Obama had made the deals he has on the economy and the border.
“With me, despite our record setting Economy and all that I have done, no credit!” he said.
