F-35 flyover to take place above White House during Polish president’s visit

A flyover of F-35 military planes will take place in the skies above the White House on Wednesday while the Polish president is in town.

President Trump said during an Oval Office meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda to expect the flyover, noting that Poland had ordered more than 30 of the planes.

The White House later clarified there would be just one F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft involved in the flyover at about 2 p.m.

The White House teased the demonstration on its Twitter account, sharing an animated graphic that showed planes whizzing by an image of the building.

A flyover above the White House, which is restricted air space, is a rare event. The Pentagon did not respond to a request for comment about how much advanced notice they were given about Wednesday’s display.

{mosads}The flyover will come on a day when Trump and Duda are expected to announce additional military commitments between the two countries.

Administration officials confirmed on Tuesday that Poland has sent an official letter of request to buy the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. They added that the State Department, which must approve all foreign military sales, is currently working on the request.

Trump regularly marvels at the aircraft during speeches to troops, describing them as impossible for the enemy to see.

The two leaders are also expected to announce an increase in U.S. troops presence in Poland and hold a press conference later in the afternoon..

Officials have been mum about specifics, deferring to Trump to make it official, but Defense One reported that the Pentagon will deploy another 1,000 troops to Poland.
