Trump continues push for tanks on National Mall for July Fourth event: report

President Trump is reportedly still pushing for tanks to be part of the Fourth of July “Salute to America” event on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., this week.

The Washington Post reports Trump has requested to station tanks or other armored military vehicles near or on the green space located in the center of the city.

{mosads}The fast-approaching event is expected to be the biggest of its kind, complete with one of the longest firework shows in the celebration’s history.

Trump is expected to deliver an address from the Lincoln Memorial.

The Post reports that consideration of tanks or other military vehicles is one of many pieces of unfinished business before the massive event takes place Thursday.

The Interior Department announced last week that there would be a military jet flyover during the event that would be capped off by a 35-minute fireworks display, largely funded by donations from two major fireworks distributors.

Trump’s high-profile involvement in the celebration has drawn some criticism from Democratic lawmakers and local officials who have balked that Trump is politicizing the long-standing tradition of fireworks on the Mall and that the event will add to unnecessary taxpayer costs.
