READ: Justice Dept. lawyer says on call citizenship question still possible for 2020 census

A Justice Department lawyer said Wednesday that the Trump administration was still trying to find a way to include a citizenship question on the 2020 census.

The judge overseeing the case scheduled a call with lawyers for the government and those suing to block the question from being added to the decennial questionnaire following confusion over a tweet sent by President Trump earlier in the day.

The conference call came hours after Trump tweeted that his administration would pursue adding the question to the 2020 census after officials in his administration said the previous day that the government was no longer pursuing the effort.
