Top Pence aide Alyssa Farah to become Pentagon press secretary

Alyssa Farah, who served for two years as a top aide to Vice President Pence, is leaving her post in the White House to serve as press secretary at the Department of Defense, she announced Wednesday.

“After 2 unforgettable years at the White House with the @VP, I’m honored to head to @DeptofDefense to serve as Press Secretary on behalf of @EsperDoD & the incredible men & women of our Armed Forces,” she tweeted.

Farah worked for roughly two years as the press secretary for Pence. She later added the title of communications director.

{mosads}Prior to her time in the White House, Farah worked as the spokeswoman for the House Freedom Caucus.

She will work in the Pentagon under recently confirmed Defense Secretary Mark Esper.

The department, like other parts of the Trump administration, has held fewer and fewer press briefings in recent months and drawn complaints from the news media and watchdogs about a lack of transparency.

When Iran shot down a U.S. drone in July, the Pentagon had a senior official phone into the briefing room to relay information to reporters, but no official stood at the podium to take questions.
