Trump knocks news of CNN hiring ex-FBI official McCabe

President Trump on Friday knocked news that CNN had hired former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe as a contributor, slamming it as “disgraceful.”

Trump shared a tweet from Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) going after McCabe, a vocal critic of Trump, noting that a government watchdog had faulted McCabe for leaking to the media.

The president also retweeted a tweet from Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), another ally who bashed news of McCabe’s hiring by CNN on Friday.

Trump and his conservative allies in Congress have repeatedly targeted McCabe over his involvement in the Justice Department’s probe into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

{mosads}The former FBI official was fired last year on the eve of his retirement after Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who was investigating the Clinton email probe, found that McCabe was not forthcoming during his review and should not have allowed FBI officials to speak with reporters about an inquiry into the Clinton Foundation.

McCabe earlier this month sued the Justice Department and FBI over his termination, arguing that his firing was politically motivated and citing Trump’s attacks against him and other Justice Department officials.

Conservatives flooded social media with criticism over McCabe’s hiring at CNN on Friday, with many citing Horowitz’s findings and knocking the news network.

“CNN hired Andrew McCabe, who was fired from the FBI for LYING UNDER OATH… of course… that makes perfect sense,” conservative author Tim Young tweeted.

CNN has signed several former top intelligence officials in recent years, including former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and deputy national security adviser Tony Blinken, among others.
