Trump to host Kuwait’s leader at White House in September

President Trump will host Kuwait’s ruler in Washington in mid-September, the White House announced Friday.

Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah will visit the White House on Sept. 12, roughly a year after his last meeting with Trump, and the two will discuss security cooperation, counterterrorism and other issues, according to the White House.

“The visit will build on the longstanding partnership between the United States and Kuwait and further strengthen our substantial economic and security ties,” White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement.

“The two leaders are expected to discuss regional developments, bilateral security cooperation, and counterterrorism issues,” she said.

The two leaders are likely to discuss Middle East security issues, including the ongoing conflicts in Syria and Yemen — both of which were topics of discussion during their last meeting. They’re also likely to discuss Iran.

The emir of Kuwait visited the White House last September, during which Trump called him a “very special friend” and praised the countries’ bilateral cooperation on trade and counterterrorism.
