Trump team eyes Michigan hotel for G7 summit: report
The Trump administration is reportedly considering a Michigan hotel and resort to host next year’s Group of 7 summit after Trump said his Miami resort was a possible contender.
Administration officials looked at Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel as a possible summit location, Crains Detroit reports.
A spokesperson for the hotel told the outlet Friday that the report was vetted by unnamed federal officials the G7 meeting but would not provide any additional information.
The hotel is believed to the be only Michigan site being considered for the summit, according to Crains Detroit. {mosads}
A White House spokesperson was not immediately available for comment regarding next year’s possible G7 summit location.
Trump told reporters last month the summit will likely be held in Miami and his Doral golf resort is a contender to host the meeting.
“They love the location of the hotel,” Trump said, noting it’s proximity to Miami International Airport.
“We haven’t found anything that’s even close to competing with it.”
Trump has come under fire for appearing to use the presidency to profit off his private businesses.
Vice President Pence earlier this month stayed at Trump hotel roughly 180 miles away from Dublin during an official visit to Ireland.
And a House Oversight panel is looking into why an Air National Guard crew stopped at Trump’s Turnberry resort in Scotland while traveling to Kuwait.
