Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions reportedly said he still supports President Trump despite being booted from his position and mocked by the president for more than a year.
Sessions praised Trump at a Republican fundraiser in Alabama Tuesday night, according to Alabama.com.
The ex-Trump administration official reportedly touted Trump for “relentlessly and actually honoring the promises he made to the American people.”{mosads}
“That’s why I still do support him,” he said.
Alabama GOP Chairwoman Terry Lathan confirmed Sessions was the guest of honor at the event, tweeting images from what she said was a sold out annual “Freedom Dinner” in Madison County.
Sessions said he is “proud” of Trump’s policy agenda and attributed “much of [Trump’s] frustration” to his “inability to move the bureaucracy to achieve what he ought to to achieved fast enough.”
“As Kanye West says, he has dragon energy,” Sessions said, according to a video of his speech published by the Montgomery Advertiser. “I think that’s a good description of him, really.”
Sessions spoke for 40 minutes but didn’t address the House impeachment inquiry or speak to reporters as he left, the Montgomery Advertiser reports.
Trump turned on Sessions after the former attorney general recused himself from the Justice Department’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Trump mocked Sessions publicly before, and after, firing him following the 2018 elections, when the Democrats took back control of the House.
Democratic Sen. Doug Jones also flipped Sessions’s former Alabama Senate seat in a special election after his appointment as attorney general.
