Trump weighs in on diplomat’s wife involved in UK crash, calling it a ‘terrible accident’

President Trump on Wednesday weighed in on the case of an American diplomat’s wife who left the United Kingdom after allegedly being involved in a fatal wrong-way car crash.

Trump told reporters that he had talked to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson about what had happened, calling it “a terrible accident.”

{mosads}The president said that the woman left the U.K. under diplomatic immunity, but it’s unclear whether Trump will uphold the immunity or return her to the U.K.

“You have two wonderful parents that lost their son, and the woman was driving on the wrong side of the road,” Trump said. “And that can happen.”

The Associated Press reported that the incident took place on Aug. 27 near RAF Croughton, a British military base used by the U.S. Air Force.

Harry Dunn, 19, was hit while riding a motorcycle and was “killed instantly,” according to Trump.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday urged the U.S. to reconsider giving diplomatic immunity to the diplomat’s wife.
