More Democrats now want the president to be impeached and removed from the Oval Office than during the Nixon era, a new poll has found.

The Gallup survey, conducted from Oct. 14-31, found that 87 percent of Democrats polled want President Trump removed from office. A Gallup survey conducted between Aug. 2 and 5, 1974, found that 71 percent of Democrats wanted Nixon removed.

{mosads} A greater share of U.S. adults overall wanted Nixon removed than wants Trump removed, however, with 58 percent supporting Nixon’s removal in 1974 and 51 supporting Trump’s removal now.

Just 7 percent of Republicans currently want Trump to be ousted, compared to 31 percent supporting Nixon’s removal before he resigned on Aug. 9, 1974, amid impeachment proceedings.

Trump’s job approval rating amid the Ukraine controversy also remains higher now than Nixon’s during the Watergate scandal, Gallup noted.

In the new poll, 41 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s job performance. Just 24 percent approved of Nixon’s job performance in August 1974.

The latest survey of 1,506 adults has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
