President Trump wished moms across the nation a happy Mother’s Day this weekend, reflecting on his own late mother’s view of him and saying she thought he “couldn’t do any wrong.”
“I had a great mom. I loved my mom, and she loved me, which … is probably not easy to do,” Trump said in an interview on “Fox & Friends” on Friday.
“She was so good to me. I couldn’t do any wrong, which is a big problem. Maybe that’s why I ended up the way I ended up. I don’t know. I couldn’t do any wrong in her eyes.”
The president said he would be spending the holiday weekend with first lady Melania Trump at Camp David in Maryland, where he is also expected to meet with the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Trump in the interview also commended the first lady’s service as a mother.
“My mother was a terrific woman, and Melania has been a great mother to Barron,” Trump said, referring to his youngest son. “Barron is growing up really beautifully, and she’s been a great mother to Barron.”
When asked if Trump thought his mother would be surprised to find out he is president of the U.S., he said that he thought she would be. His mother died in 2000 at the age of 88.
“I think any mother would be,” he said, adding, “My mother was somebody that gave me a lot of confidence, and she believed in me. … My father was the same. I mean, he was a strong guy, but he was a good man, very good human being, very good person. And he always had confidence in me.”
“I miss my parents,” Trump said, adding that having good parents is an advantage in life and that he had great opportunities due to his upbringing.
