Vice President Pence’s press secretary, Katie Miller, returned to work on Tuesday, just more than two weeks after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
Miller said on Twitter that she had tested negative three times for COVID-19. The vice president’s top press aide, who is married to top White House adviser Stephen Miller, also announced that she is pregnant.
“Back at work today after three NEGATIVE COVID tests. Thank you to all my amazing doctors and everyone who reached out with support,” Katie Miller tweeted. “I couldn’t have done it without my amazing husband who took great care of his pregnant wife.”
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany later told reporters that Stephen Miller was also back to work at the White House after self-quarantining with his wife.
Miller tested positive for the coronavirus on May 8. She was one of two aides in the White House to test positive on consecutive days, resulting in the West Wing instituting a new policy requiring aides wear masks at all times unless socially distanced at their desks.
Miller’s case was particularly jarring given her close proximity to Pence, who is leading the White House coronavirus task force. Three members of the task force subsequently quarantined, and Pence also kept his distance from Trump for roughly a week out of an abundance of caution.
Trump and Pence are now tested daily for the coronavirus and others, including the White House press pool, are tested for COVID-19 before coming in contact with either official.
