Trump hits ‘Stone Cold’ Democrats over push to undo travel ban

President Trump hammered House Democrats over their push this week to undo his signature travel ban, casting the move as evidence that the party is lurching to the left.

“The Democrats in the House are trying to undo my big win Travel Ban Bill, which successfully keeps very bad and dangerous people out of our great Country,” Trump tweeted Saturday.

The president noted that the House bill passed this week along party lines, saying he hoped it “will be DEAD in the Senate.”

“The Dems have gone Stone Cold Left – Venezuela on steroids!” Trump added.

The rebuke comes after the House this week passed legislation to repeal the president’s controversial travel ban.

The Democratic bill includes language intended to curtail the president’s power to impose travel restrictions on citizens from other countries and prohibits religious discrimination in immigration decisions.

The bill would mandate that the State Department and Department of Homeland Security consult with Congress before imposing a restriction. If it fails to do so, the administration’s order would be deemed invalid.

Trump first issued the travel ban in 2017, suspending entry to those coming from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia — seven predominantly Muslim countries.

Democrats have long panned the move, and former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has vowed to repeal the travel ban on his first day in office.

Republicans, meanwhile, have said the effort to impose the restrictions threatens U.S. national security.

“We are spending our time with this bill that would limit it and make it more difficult for the president of the United States … to keep Americans safe, whether it’s from terrorists abroad or whether it’s for health pandemics that might break out again in the future. This is lunacy,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said during debate.
