Trump to attend Super Bowl in New Orleans

President Trump will attend the Super Bowl on Sunday in New Orleans, the White House confirmed to The Hill on Tuesday.

The game, which is set for 6:30 p.m. EST, will take place at Caesars Superdome between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs are aiming for their third straight Super Bowl win.

Trump congratulated the Chiefs after they won the AFC championship game to advance to the Super Bowl but didn’t comment on the Eagles’ win in the NFC championship game.

Trump also will sit for an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, which is set to air Sunday before the game. A sitting president granting an interview to the network broadcasting the big game has become an unofficial tradition in recent years, though former President Biden skipped the pregame chat the past two years and Trump snubbed a pregame conversation with NBC News in 2018.

Trump attended another big football game this year — when the University of Alabama played the University of Georgia in September.

This year’s Super Bowl is expected to net Fox Sports tens of millions of viewers around the world, and rapper Kendrick Lamar, who won big at the Grammys this past weekend, will perform at halftime.

Vice President Vance’s office did not respond to a request for comment on whether he will also attend the game.

Trump had canceled a planned White House visit by the Eagles, who won the 2018 Super Bowl, during his first team after some players decided to boycott the event.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts golfed with former President Obama in the days before the 2024 election, calling Trump’s first predecessor an “all-time leader.”

Meanwhile, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said in September that he would not endorse Trump or Vice President Harris in the 2024 race, but his wife, Brittany Mahomes, has suggested on social media she supports Trump.

The then-GOP presidential nominee publicly thanked Brittany Mahomes after she liked one of his posts on Instagram in August, and she liked comments on posts promoting “Trump-Vance 2024.”

Global pop superstar Taylor Swift is also expected to attend the Super Bowl to support her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Swift endorsed Harris in September and Trump responded on Truth Social with a post declaring, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Swift signed her endorsement message, “Childless Cat Lady,” which was a jab at Vance’s past comments attacking Harris and other prominent Democrats. The singer also cited fake images generated by artificial intelligence that suggested she was supporting Trump as a reason for endorsing Harris.
