Cindy McCain said Monday that Democratic President-elect Joe Biden is considering roles for Republicans in his administration.
Asked by “The View” co-host Ana Navarro-Cardenas if she would consider a role in the administration herself, McCain said, “Most of all right now, what I want is for this country to be no longer divided but work together. That’s the reason I endorsed Joe.”
McCain, who also works on Biden’s transition team, said that part of her work “is to help put good Republicans into places within the administration.”
“This is an administration that’s going to be all-inclusive and there is a role for Republicans in the administration,” she added. “Our party, on the other hand, I think what we will see is probably a bit of a change. Our party was almost the party that was the party of inclusion.”
“Years ago … we were the inclusive ones, we were the party of Abraham Lincoln,” she added. “And we’ve gone so far awry on what our values are as Republicans that … it’s time to step back, stop this … and go back to our core values.”
The president-elect is reported to be considering some Republicans for roles in his administration, including former Quibi CEO Meg Whitman and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
McCain herself was one of the highest-profile GOP endorsers of the former vice president. Biden is poised to be the first Democrat in decades to win Arizona, the state her late husband Sen. John McCain (R) represented.
