Former President Biden’s regular medical exam last week revealed a “small nodule” on his prostate, his spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.

“In a routine physical exam a small nodule was found in the prostate which necessitated further evaluation,” a Biden spokesperson told The Hill’s sister network NewsNation. The spokesperson did not elaborate further.

Biden, 82, spent time Friday in a Philadelphia hospital, according to The New York Times, which first reported on the development

Biden left the Oval Office in January as the oldest serving commander in chief in U.S. history.

The former president had a lesion on his chest removed during his physical exam in 2023. It was a basal cell carcinoma, according to the president’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor.

“The site of the biopsy has healed nicely, and the President will continue dermatologic surveillance as part of his ongoing comprehensive health care,” the doctor said at the time.

Biden’s four-year term was marked by worries about his health and advanced age. The former president dropped his reelection bid in July.

He has returned to the spotlight in recent weeks, though his reemergence has ignited blowback from some Democrats. He sat down with the BBC for his first interview since leaving the White House and appeared on ABC’s “The View” alongside his wife, former first lady Jill Biden.
