Psaki won’t comment on Greene, saying it would ‘elevate conspiracy theories’

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday that she would not comment on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) because she doesn’t want to “elevate conspiracy theories” in the White House briefing room.

“We don’t want to elevate conspiracy theories further in the briefing room, so I’m going to leave it at that,” Psaki said.

Psaki also told reporters that she would leave the decision to Congress as to whether to keep Greene on committees as she has come under fire for her promotion of unfounded conspiracy theories.

Psaki earlier this week refused to comment on Greene’s social media posts and said she would not speak about the Republican congresswoman further.

Greene, who has promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory, this week sparked new outrage over a previous Facebook post calling for the execution of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and a video that has reemerged showing her berating gun control activist David Hogg shortly after he survived the 2018 mass school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

Pelosi sharply rebuked Greene earlier this week and criticized Republicans for putting her on the House Education Committee.

“What I’m concerned about is the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives, who was … assigning her to the Education Committee when she has mocked the killing of little children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, when she has mocked the killing of teenagers at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School,” Pelosi told reporters on Thursday.

“What could they be thinking? Or is thinking too generous a word for what they might be doing? It’s absolutely appalling,” the Speaker continued.

Psaki alluded to those remarks in the briefing on Friday as she declined to comment on Greene’s committee membership, saying Pelosi had spoken on the issue.
