Biden to visit Wisconsin in first official domestic trip

President Biden will travel to Wisconsin next Tuesday, the White House announced, in what is expected to be his first official domestic trip as commander in chief.

Officials did not offer any details on the president’s trip to Milwaukee. However, CNN later announced that it will host a town hall with Biden Tuesday evening in Milwaukee moderated by network anchor Anderson Cooper.

Biden and Vice President Harris have been using most of their public appearances to spotlight the new administration’s effort to combat the coronavirus pandemic and promote the president’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan to provide relief to families and American workers.

Biden last visited the Badger State at the end of October when he delivered a campaign address to supporters in Milwaukee days before the November election. Biden went on to win Wisconsin by roughly 20,000 votes over former President Trump, defeating the incumbent in a state that Trump won narrowly in the 2016 election.

In his first few weeks as president, Biden has been largely confined to the White House, where he has delivered speeches on his coronavirus relief plan and other policy priorities, signed executive actions and held meetings.

The White House has indicated that Biden’s travel will be limited during the coronavirus pandemic, as cases remain high across the country. Biden took his first trip on Air Force One to his home in Delaware this past weekend, receiving a checkup on his foot, which he injured in November, and spending time with family.

Biden also visited wounded troops at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center during his first full week as president and last Thursday delivered an address on foreign policy at the State Department.
