President Biden’s son Hunter Biden rips former President Trump in his new book, calling him “a vile man with a vile mission” who explored “unprecedented depths” in the 2020 election.
The cutting assessment of his father’s predecessor was part of a memoir, “Beautiful Things,” set to release next week, according to a copy obtained by The Guardian.
In the book, Hunter Biden alleged that he “became a proxy for Donald Trump’s fear that he wouldn’t be re-elected,” adding that the former president floated “conspiracy theories” about him to strengthen his chances of winning the election.
“He pushed debunked conspiracy theories about work I did in Ukraine and China, even as his own children had pocketed millions in China and Russia and his former campaign manager [Paul Manafort] sat in a jail cell for laundering millions more from Ukraine,” Biden wrote.
Hunter Biden was often the subject of the former president’s attacks on President Biden. During the 2020 campaign, Trump and his allies alleged that the elder Biden, while vice president, interfered in Ukrainian affairs to give Hunter Biden preferential treatment while he sat on the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma.
However, this claim has been disputed.
Trump also seized on Hunter Biden’s dealings in China during this time.
Hunter Biden’s dealings in Ukraine during the Obama administration were also part of the discussion during a July 2019 phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The call became the subject of Trump’s first impeachment.
“None of that matters in an up-is-down Orwellian political climate. Trump believed that if he could destroy me, and by extension my father, he could dispatch any candidate of decency from either party, all while diverting attention from his own corrupt behavior,” he added.
Hunter Biden also directly compared himself to Trump’s children, writing, “I am not Eric Trump or Donald Trump Jr. I’ve worked for someone other than my father. I rose and fell on my own.”
In the book, Hunter Biden also offered commentary on a handful of Trump’s allies, calling Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) a “troll” and writing that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) “morph[ed] into a Trump lapdog right before my eyes, slandering me and my father in the coldest, most cynical, most self-serving ways.”
According to The Guardian, the memoir also explores a number of topics in Hunter Biden’s life, including his addiction to crack, his romantic relationship with his sister-in-law and the death of his brother, Beau Biden.
The book will be released on April 6.
Hunter Biden recently made headlines this month when a report surfaced alleging that the Secret Service got involved in a 2018 incident involving a gun. The White House and Secret Service, however, pushed back on the account, saying they had no involvement in the incident.
