Trump on Kentucky Derby winner: ‘This is emblematic of what is happening to our country’

Former President Trump likened the Kentucky Derby winner failing a post-race drug test to “what is happening to our country,” citing the borders and presidential election.

“So now even our Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit, is a junky. This is emblematic of what is happening to our Country. The whole world is laughing at us as we go to hell on our Borders, our fake Presidential Election, and everywhere else!” Trump wrote in a statement on Sunday.

Trump’s comments come after months of pushing false claims that the 2020 election results were fraudulent and recent criticism of the Biden administration’s handling of the influx of migrants at the southern border.

Churchill Downs, the racetrack, revealed on Sunday that Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit’s post-race blood sample tested positive for betamethasone, an anti-inflammatory drug.

Trainer Bob Baffert has disputed Medina Spirit’s positive test result, contending that the horse “has never been treated with betamethasone.”

Churchill Downs said in a statement on Sunday that if a subsequent test shows traces of betamethasone, Medina Spirit’s race win will be invalidated and runner-up Mandaloun will be declared the winner.

Baffert blamed Churchill Downs’ statement on “cancel culture,” adding, “We live in a different world now. This America’s different.”

In a statement in March, Trump said his administration “handed the Biden Administration the most secure border in history,” only to have it turn into a “national disaster.”

“All they had to do was keep this smooth-running system on autopilot. Instead, in the span of a just few weeks, the Biden Administration has turned a national triumph into a national disaster. They are in way over their heads and taking on water fast,” Trump said.
