A new campaign led by ex-aides to former President Trump plans to spend up to $10 million to derail President Biden’s economic plan as it moves through Congress.
The “Save America Coalition” campaign is expected to launch on Friday and is led by the America First Policy Institute, a group founded by former Trump officials, according to The Washington Post. At the helm of the institute is Brooke Rollins, who was the director of the Domestic Policy Council under Trump.
“The Biden economic agenda is designed with one goal in mind — to remake America and the principles upon which our nation was founded,” Rollins said to The Washington Post. “These policies threaten American prosperity, small businesses, the economic health of every American family, and our standing in the world.”
Other former Trump aides involved in the effort include economic adviser Larry Kudlow, budget director Russ Vought and campaign adviser Stephen Moore, The Post reported.
Those leading the campaign gathered Wednesday night to rally the support of over 100 conservative organizations and to attract donors to fund advertisements and social media campaigns in swing states, The Post said.
Biden’s plan would include tax hikes of about $1 trillion on corporations and $1 trillion on the wealthy. While Republicans are uniformly opposed to the tax hikes, Biden again defended his economic vision in a speech Thursday.
“The choice is this: Are we going to continue with an economy where the overwhelming share of the benefits go to big corporations and the very wealthy?” he said. “Or are we going to take this moment right now to set this country on a new path, one that invests in this nation, creates real sustained economic growth and that benefits everyone, including working people and middle class folks.”
