Biden approval rating levels off at 42 percent: Gallup

President Biden’s approval rating is leveling off at 42 percent, according to Gallup poll released Friday.

The survey, conducted Oct. 1-19, found that 52 percent disapprove of the job Biden is doing as president, while a separate six percent had no opinion.

The poll found Biden’s approval rating essentially holding steady after sliding to 43 percent in September, which was the first time Gallup recorded a majority disapproved of Biden’s job performance. At that time, Biden was facing bipartisan criticism for his handling of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Friday’s poll is also in line with CNBC-All America Economic Survey released Thursday, which held Biden’s approval ratings at 41 percent.

The survey found that independents are largely responsible for recent declines in Biden’s approval rating.  Thirty-four percent of independents approve of the job Biden is doing, while 57 percent disapprove.

Ninety-two percent of Democrats approve of Biden’s job in office, while six percent disapprove. Meanwhile, four percent of Republicans approve of the job Biden is doing, compared to 94 percent who disapprove.

For the third quarter of his first year in office, which lasted from July 20 through Oct. 19, Biden’s approval rating averaged 44.7 percent, down eight points from his second-quarter rating (53 percent).

All other elected presidents had higher rankings during the third quarter of their first year except for former President Trump, who’s approval rating averaged 36.9 percent at that point.

Gallup surveyed 832 adults from Oct. 1-19. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points.
