President Biden said he plans to run for reelection in 2024, assuming he’s still in good health.
“Yes,” he said when asked if he plans to run for reelection during an interview ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir that aired on Wednesday.
“But look, I’m a great respecter of fate. Fate has intervened in my life many, many times. If I’m in the health I’m in now, if I’m in good health, then in fact, I would run again,” he added.
Muir asked Biden if he would run even if it meant a rematch against former President Trump. The president smirked before responding, “You’re trying to tempt me now.”
“Sure, why would I not run against Donald Trump if he were the nominee? That’d increase the prospect of running,” he added.
The White House has repeatedly said Biden intends to run again, a recurring source of uncertainty due to his age — he would be 81 on the next presidential Election Day.
Vice President Harris insisted in a Wall Street Journal interview published last week that she doesn’t even “think” about Biden running 2024 or talk to him about it.
“I can’t speak to the conversation that the vice president the president has, I could only say what and reiterate what Jen [Psaki] has said and what the president has said himself that he is planning to run for reelection in 2024,” White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters when asked about it.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki also confirmed in November that Biden’s intention was to run for re-election in 2024.
