Live updates: Trump doubles down on controversial Gaza plan; Jordan’s king rejects Palestinian displacement

President Trump met with King Abdullah II of Jordan on Tuesday, where he doubled down on a controversial proposal for the U.S. to take over the Gaza Strip amid pressure he’s putting on neighboring Arab countries to absorb its population.

The president and the king fielded some questions from reporters from the Oval Office, where Abdullah tried to slow roll Trump’s Gaza proposal, which is vastly unpopular in the Middle East. Trump, meanwhile, vowed to press on but also lauded Abdullah and his pledge to take in 2,000 sick Palestinian children.

After the meeting, a statement from the king rejected any displacement of Palestinians, noting the Arab nations are in agreement on this.

Meanwhile, House Republicans are sorting out how they’ll get Trump’s legislative agenda passed.

House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) floated a framework for advancing Trump’s legislative agenda during a private meeting of panel members Tuesday morning, sources told The Hill. His committee has set a markup on a blueprint for Thursday.

The Senate is expected to confirm Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence late Tuesday, possibly into early Wednesday.
