Poll: Trump trails Biden, Sanders, Warren in potential 2020 matchups
President Trump trails top Democrats in potential matchups of likely 2020 White House candidates, according to a new poll.
The Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday found that Trump lags behind former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) by 12 points each.
The president also trails 4 points behind Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) in the poll.

Trump fares better against lesser-known Democrats, holding leads of as much as 10 points over hypothetical challengers including Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).
Notably, however, Trump fails to secure the support of more than 30 percent of respondents in any of those matchups, which is low for an incumbent, the report on the poll notes.
Morning Consult poll director Tyler Sinclair said Wednesday that the poll showed a strong advantage for Sanders and Biden, considered two of the most likely 2020 Democratic contenders.
“Democrats are showing an enthusiasm gap in likely 2020 candidates, with Sanders and Biden outpacing other potential nominees,” Sinclair said. “Our polling shows 74 [percent] and 73 percent of Democrats say they would vote for Sanders and Biden over Trump, respectively. This exceeds Warren [60 percent], Booker [49 percent], and Harris [47 percent].”
Politico/Morning Consult’s poll contacted 1,974 registered voters between Aug. 16-18. The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
