Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is the top choice in the Democratic presidential primary among liberal voters, according to an online YouGov–Economist poll.
When asked “which candidate or candidates are you considering voting for in the Democratic Presidential primary,” 53 percent of identified liberals said Warren. The poll released Wednesday found 47 percent of liberals are considering voting for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and 45 percent are considering voting for former Vice President Joe Biden.
{mosads}Biden is still the top choice among total voters polled by YouGov, but with just a slim lead ahead of Warren and Sanders. The poll shows 45 percent of respondents considering Biden, with Warren close behind with 42 percent and Sanders with 41 percent.
Democrats’ favorable rating for Biden is 1-point higher than Warren’s — but twice as many respondents viewed Biden unfavorably compared with Warren, according to YouGov.
Warren also had the lowest unfavorable rating among leading Democratic contenders, with just 9 percent of respondents viewing Warren unfavorably.
Warren is also slightly behind Biden among female voters, with 45 percent of female voters choosing Warren as their top candidate. Biden again ranks first with 51 percent of female voters considering him. Sanders dropped to the fourth place spot among female voters in the poll, coming behind Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).
The largest disparity among Democrats’ view of Biden and Warren in the poll is among black Americans. Biden ranked first among candidates in the poll, with 54 percent of the black American signaling support. Warren ranked fifth with 23 percent of polled black American Democrats, falling behind Sanders, Harris and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) with 33 percent of black Americans considering them.
YouGov’s results derive from web-based interviews from 1,500 respondents. YouGov uses a plus or minus 2.7 percentage point margin of error.
