Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) leads the Democratic primary field by 5 percentage points in Wisconsin, according to a new poll released Thursday.
The survey conducted by Change Research on behalf of Crooked Media, a progressive network, found the Massachusetts lawmaker as the top choice of 29 percent of likely Democratic primary voters in the Badger State.
{mosads}Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), at 24 percent, and former Vice President Joe Biden, at 20 percent, were the only other candidates with double-digit support.
South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) clocked in at 9 percent support, while Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) registered 5 percent.
No other candidate cleared 2 percent support.
Wisconsin’s primary is scheduled for April 7, 2020, putting it toward the end of the calendar.
The state has received increased focus this election cycle, however, because of President Trump’s win over Hillary Clinton in the state’s last general election.
Thursday’s survey predicts a tight race in the 2020 general election, with 45 percent of respondents saying they will probably or definitely vote for Trump and 46 percent saying the same for the eventual Democratic nominee.
Change Research polled 1,966 likely voters in Wisconsin between Aug. 9 and 11. That figure includes 626 likely Democratic primary voters. The margin of error for the full sample is 2.2 points.
